NEED TO KNOW AND ACTION
Changes to the School Bus routes appear to have started well. Please read the information on our website that provides details of the routes and the pick up/drop off times.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
The next Senior Parent/Teacher Conferences (Years 11, 12 and 13) will take place on Wednesday 1 August, 4.30-7.30pm. These Conferences cover subjects from both the first half and second half of this year. Junior Parent/Teacher Conferences (Years 9 and 10) will take place on Wednesday 22 August, 4.30-7.30pm. These Conferences will cover English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education, as well as the new second half option subjects, in order to give you an early indication of progress in these areas. If you would like to speak to a first half option Teacher, please email that Teacher directly. If the Teacher has a space available, a manual booking will be made for you. If your student is studying a full year language at Year 10, you will be able to make a booking as a second half option. Bookings for both evenings open in the Parent Portal on Friday 27 July. Bookings will close at 3pm on the days of the Conferences. If you are unable to access the Portal, please email WebPortal@onslow.school.nz to receive instructions on how to sign up.
REMINDER - OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS YEAR 9 2019
We have a steady stream of enrolments for Year 9 2019 coming in. If you have a child that will be starting Onslow College in 2019 please have your enrolment form into us as soon as possible. This will help us to gauge how many out of zone enrolments we can accept. If you know of anyone wishing to put in an out of zone enrolment for Year 9 2019, please remind them the cut-off date is 30 July.
CHANGES TO STUDENT ACCESS TO SCHOOL LAPTOPS
Beginning Week 2 of Term 3.
Students in Years 9 - 11 are expected to bring their own laptops to school and to keep them charged.
The Library will no longer issue school laptops to these students.
The Library will continue to issue laptops to those students who already have an arrangement in place.
Teachers will email you to let you know if your student is not bringing their laptop to class.
If your BYOD student does not have a laptop, for example when it needs repairs, please email the student’s Ako teacher with a brief explanation.
IT Support will then arrange a short-term loan of a School laptop to cover your student for the necessary period of time.
Year 12 -13 students are not yet part of our BYOD programme.
Library laptops will be reserved for this group of students. Usually a Teacher for a senior class will book them.
2019 SUBJECT SELECTION
Students will soon be asked to select their subjects for 2019 via the Portal. There will be more information for families/students soon, but in the meantime, please be aware of the timeframes.
2019 Senior Subject Selection opens Monday 6 August to Thursday 16 August.
This will involve 2018 students currently in Years 10, 11 and 12.
2019 Year 10 Subject Selection opens Wednesday 22 August to Friday 7 September.
This will involve current Year 9 students.
subject expO 2018 - 8 AUGUST
On Wednesday 8 August classes for all year levels will finish at 1:15pm to enable Year 10, 11 and 12 students to attend the Subject Expo. This is an opportunity for students in Year 10, 11 and 12 to find out more about the subjects they are considering taking in 2019. Students will receive an information sheet with the programme for the Expo from their Ako Teacher and they are expected to make the most of the opportunity. Students in Years 9 and 13 will be released for the afternoon although there will be supervision available in the Library for those that need to remain at School. All buses will arrive at School at 3:10pm as normal. Information on this Expo and pathways for students will be available on our website shortly.
