ONSLOW COLLEGE BULLETIN                                TERM TWO, WEEK EIGHT

Congratulations to Finlay Cross (Year 11) and Alex Ramsay (Year 10) on their selection to the Capital Basketball Under 17 team.  This team draws players from across the region and will represent Capital Basketball at the Under 17 National Championships 11 – 15 July here in Wellington.

NEED TO KNOW AND ACTION

FROM THE BOARD

Representation

We are pleased to announce that Tracy and Alex McCreadie have been co-opted to the Board as Whanau representatives for the duration of the Principal Appointment process.  We are also pleased to announce that Ella Flavell has been co-opted as a second student representative to the Board for the remainder of the 2018 year.  This co-option follows an approach by senior students raising concerns about gender equity in Board representation.  The next highest polling candidate of the other gender at the annual election will be the co-opted representative.

NCEA

The Ministry of Education is reviewing NCEA, and some of the ideas being put forward signal the potential for major change. Between now and September 16 they are seeking people’s feedback.  We’d strongly encourage all students and parents to have a say. Here’s the web link for how you can do this, either in writing or face to face.

Principal Appointment Process

We’d like to thank the staff, DP’s, PTA and whanau whom we met with over the past few weeks for the feedback they provided to help us refine selection criteria. We’ve put those ideas together with the survey results and it’s given us a really clear signal of what we need to look for in a new Principal.  This week we will be selecting a short list, and we plan for them to visit the school and be interviewed during the first week of July.

OPEN EVENING 2018 - 13 jUNE

The Open Evening, whilst a rather damp event, was another huge success.  The number of comments received from attendees about how impressed they were with our students was great to hear.  It is our students that make the School and they certainly did us proud!

SCHOOL PHOTOS ARE AT THE OFFICE FOR STUDENTS TO COLLECT.

REPORTING TO FAMILIES AND WHĀNAU

Our new Learning Program for reporting is now available!  The Learning Program aims to improve the usefulness of feedback to students, their families and whanau.  The Learning Program is accessible through the Parent Portal. An instruction sheet for accessing the information is available on the website. The information will be accessible throughout the year and across years.  Commentaries and grades for Juniors (Years 9 and 10) will be available from Friday 6 July.

Onslow College YEAr 9 Curriculum - survey

The Survey closes this Thursday.  This is an opportunity for families to comment on the change made in 2015 so that all students studied subjects from each Learning Area. We are currently reviewing this change and would appreciate your input into this review. To complete the survey please click here. The survey will be open until 21 June.
