NEED TO KNOW AND ACTION

Principal appointment pROCESS - UPDATE from THE board

Applications for the Principal position closed last week, and we are pleased to have received a good number and variety of applicants.  We’d like to extend a big thank you to all the parents, students and staff who completed the survey we circulated. We received 407 responses in total.  You have provided us with some very thoughtful and helpful views and suggestions on what you want to see in a new Principal; what you want to see the school maintain, and what you want to see developed for the School in the future.  Our task over the next week is to work through all of what you told us, and use that to refine our short listing criteria and interview questions. Then onto the task of selecting candidates for the short list which we will complete later this month.

OPEN EVENING 2018 - 13 jUNE

School will finish after Spell 4, at 12.25pm, on Wednesday 13 June to allow staff and students to set up for Open Evening.  Newlands buses will call for students at 12.25pm, Go Wellington buses will call from 3.10pm.  Thank you to the many students who have volunteered to help with this important occasion.  If you have a Year 8 Student, or have friends with Year 8s, we encourage you to come along and see all of the great things we offer at Onslow College.

REPORTING TO FAMILIES AND WHĀNAU

For the last two years, the school has been developing a new reporting system, the Learning Program, to improve the usefulness of feedback to students, their families and whānau. We plan to use this system for the first time this term. It is accessible through the Parent Portal and we will send instructions soon on how to use it. We believe the Learning Program will offer many advantages, for example:

It is formative and summative; ongoing commentary on student engagement and achievement can be entered by staff at any time during the year. It will be on-line and cumulative. Families will be able to view it throughout the year and across years. Initial commentaries and grades for Senior students (Years 11-13) will be available in the Portal from Monday 18 June, following which the Learning Program will be permanently live. Staff have been asked to prepare commentaries and grades for Juniors (Years 9 and 10) by Friday 6 July.

ONSLOW COLLEGE APP

We are proud to release our very own Onslow College app to Parents/Whanau, Students and Staff. The app has been sponsored by the Onslow College PTA so that you can download it for free from the App Store (apple) or Google Play Store (android). Search for Onslow College and look for the school logo on a green background. There is a secure login to “My Portal” using your Onslow College Portal user name and password where you can access student and family details, absences, timetables, make absence notifications (parents), and check the Bulletin.
